Register and Vote !

Four months ahead of the European elections scheduled for 7th June, CSV International expresses its satisfaction at the reduction of the deadline for registration on the voters’ lists. The deadline for the registration of EU citizens wishing to participate in the elections of 7th June is now 12th March, having been extended from 14 months to 3 months ahead of the next election.

CSV international congratulates all those who have brought about this reform, the Chamber of Deputies, the Government, and particularly Minister of the Interior Jean-Marie Halsdorf who took the initiative of extending the registration period. This move gives a new dynamic to the registration process of EU citizens on the electoral lists.
CSV international now appeals to all EU citizens eligible to vote to seize the opportunity and register their names on the electoral roll until 12th March at the latest, in order to participate in the elections of 7th June. We are at the disposal of everyone requiring further information about the registration procedure.
The conditions to be fulfilled by resident EU citizens if they want to register are the following:
          Be a citizen of an EU member country other than Luxembourg;
          Be 18 years of age at the latest on polling day, i.e. on 7th June 2009;
          Be a resident of Luxembourg for at least two years.
We are proud that CSV has included a Portuguese national, Tania Matias, on its list of candidates for the European elections. Together with Viviane Reding, Georges Bach, Frank Engel, Astrid Lulling and Roger Weber, she stands for the pluralism and diversity of Luxembourgish society. The candidates belong to different generations and represent all the regions of the country. With this list of competent candidates, CSV underlines its attachment to and stand for a strong and united Europe of solidarity.

About CSV International: this is a new structure within CSV designed to improve the integration of foreign nationals into the party and the political and civic life of Luxembourg in general. This initiative translates the wish of CSV to integrate more foreigners into its activities and is aimed above all towards those fellow citizens with no or an insufficient command of the Luxembourgish language. It is open to everyone wishing to take part in its work and endeavour. CSV is the first Luxembourgish party to have founded such a structure.
