The National Council of the CSV met to discuss the proposal for a constitutional revision introduced in the Chamber of Deputies. It voted, by a large majority, in favor of including the freedom of voluntary termination of pregnancy in the Constitution, under the conditions defined by law.
With this decision, the CSV reaffirms its clear commitment to women’s rights and their freedom of choice. The party believes that this constitutional guarantee strengthens women’s free choice and, consequently, their right to bodily and sexual self-determination, in full respect of democratic principles and freedom of conscience. The CSV remains committed to the current legislation on abortion and does not foresee any further amendments to this text.
In order to give this constitutional guarantee the broadest possible legitimacy, the CSV will, together with its coalition partner, engage in discussions with the other political parties represented in the Chamber of Deputies to seek the widest possible consensus.
