The European Parliament represents the voice of the European citizens within the Union. In recent decades, the powers of the Parliament have become increasingly important. Thus, the Parliament controls the EU budget and the work of the Commission. Together with the European Council, it is the legislative body of the EU.
The European Parliament today consists of 750 members. Members are elected every 5 years by the 500 million citizens in the European Union. Each country elects only its own European representatives. The last election was on June 9, 2024.
Luxembourg has 6 seats in the European Parliament. With their votes, voters granted 2 of these to the CSV in the last elections.
