Marc Spautz, born in 1963, grew up in Schifflingen. To this day, he remains loyal to the community of 11,000 inhabitants.

By profession, Marc Spautz is a trained automobile mechanic and worked as such from 1978 to 1984. From 1984 to 1985, he was employed at the WSA (Warehouses Service Agency) in Sassenheim, and from 1985 to 1989, he worked for the then Cegedel.

Already at a young age, Marc Spautz was involved in trade union activities, which in some ways set the course for his further professional career: From 1990 to 1996, he was an LCGB trade union secretary, from 1996 to 1998 deputy general secretary, and from 1998 to 2009 general secretary.

Since his youth, Marc Spautz has also been politically active: In 1981, he joined the Christian Social People's Party (CSV). From 2009 to 2012, he served as their general secretary, and from February 2014 to January 2019, he was the party president.

In the 2004 parliamentary election, Marc Spautz was elected to the Chamber of Deputies for the first time. In 2009, he was reaffirmed as a deputy by the voters. From October 2011 to April 2013, he was chairman of the CSV faction at the Krautmarkt.

Following a government reshuffle, Marc Spautz was appointed to the government by then Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker on April 27, 2013. Three days later, he was sworn in by the Grand Duke and was responsible—as part of the anticipated new elections—for the departments of Family, Development Cooperation, and Relations with Parliament.

After the aforementioned new elections at the end of 2013, Marc Spautz re-entered Parliament as a deputy. Five years later, in October 2018, voters again placed their trust in him. The same was true for the parliamentary election in October 2023. Since November, Marc Spautz has also been the chairman of the CSV faction once again.

Marc Spautz also looks back on a long-standing political engagement at the local level: In his hometown Schifflingen, he has been represented on the municipal council since 1994—with a break from his appointment as minister in 2013 until the municipal elections in 2017: from 1994 to 1999 as a municipal council member, from 2000 to 2005 as an alderman, from 2005 to 2011 as a municipal council member, from 2011 to April 2013 as an alderman, from the end of 2017 to the present also as an alderman.

Alongside his political engagement, Marc Spautz was a member of the Chamber of Labor (1984-1988) and the Chamber of Private Employees (1993-2004).

Whether as a trade unionist or a politician, the concerns of citizens always form the basis of Marc Spautz's work. He approaches people, has a listening ear for their worries, helps find solutions, and offers advice. Quickly and straightforwardly. This has not changed to this day.

As - or even especially - as the faction leader of the CSV, social issues are particularly close to his heart. "A job for everyone" is one of his principles, which he has advocated for decades—literally around the clock. For Marc Spautz, politics is "a 24-hour job, seven days a week."

His spare time is accordingly limited. Although not less tightly scheduled than his political calendar, family and close friends are the priority here. Marc Spautz relaxes through good conversations in a convivial atmosphere or by reading a good book. The 60-year-old recharges his energy during extended walks in the forests in and around Schifflingen—ideally with his wife, son, and two daughters, and his grandchild.
